I have completed the test for Cartoon Network (unless I decide to tweak it in the morning). Now, the question remains: Is it good enough? I fear not, but I certainly hope so. Next week, I will find out whether I will be granted an interview or not. Time to search for Pagan gods to award bloody sacrifices in turn for “luck.”
Earlier today, I was riding MTA Bus 181 hurtling down Broadway in Glendale en route to Pasadena while reading the newest Cerebus book: Latter Days. For those not in the know, Cerebus is a long running independent comic about the exploits of an aardvark. The man sitting beside me asked if I was “into comic-strips” and then proceeded to tell me about the various animated productions he had worked on in the past for companies such as Saban, MGM, etc. He seemed to be a nice enough man, but he certainly wasn’t the best fated. He was disheveled, reeked of alcohol, his teeth were in a rotten shambles, and his mental capacities seemed a bit faulty. He was a broken ex-animator. As this man spoke to me, I couldn’t help thinking:
“Please do not let this be the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.”
I received good news today. Cartoon Network is looking for Flash animators for Craig McCracken’s new show, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. I sent a resume and portfolio about a week ago. Today I received an email asking that I come by the studio to take an animation test. While this does not mean I will be hired, it does mean the reviewers at least saw enough promise to contact me. I have submitted portfolios to CN on three or more occasions and this is the only time I have received any response other than “come pick up your portfolio.” Let’s hope it works out.
Merry Christmas, folks.
I was up at 3:00am today and off to LAX. My girlfriend flew into Baton Rouge for the holidays. My other roommate left a few days ago. Thus, the apartment is all mine. Unfortunately, nearly everyone I know is gone for Christmas, but I’m sure I’ll be ok.
Saturday saw yet another Moodoo Puppets performance. It occurred in the basement of the Rosewood Methodist Church. There was a large crowd and the L.A. Breakers performed before us. It was quite cool.
That night, I watched Return of the King which I enjoyed immensely. I think Peter Jackson has made a great contribution to the film community. It’s funny to think it all began with Meet the Feebles.
If you live in an area of L.A. that receives Adelphia Cable, be sure to watch The Marvelous World of Moodoo on Cable Access January 3rd at 9:30pm.
Here are pictures from the Doo Dah Parade for those of you mildly interested in seeing them. I am the cyclopean snailien.
I opened a quote book at work today and the first thing I spied was this:
I don’t think I could have found a more apt quote had I flipped through each page of the book.
It has been a productive weekend.
Saturday was spent entertaining preschoolers Moodoo Puppets style. That night brought the release of Crow Clock Shorts #04. Today was spent gallivanting down the streets of Pasadena in the Doo Dah Parade dressed as the cyclopean snalien, Blort. If luck smiles upon you, perhaps you shall see photos shortly.
I completed the book, The Serpent and the Rainbow about a week ago. It relays (quite poetically) the true-life adventures and internal debates of Wade Davis as he studied the Zombi phenomena in Haiti. It is a fantastic read. I highly recommend it. This text would later inspire the 1988 Wes Craven thriller of the same name, which is a great movie despite an atrocious ending.
I have vowed that 2004 will be the year Fourchinnigan Publications disgraces the planet as I plan to self-publish at least one children’s book before year’s end. Stay tuned!
Holy Crap!
I am now 26 years old.
If one day you decided to give into the call of nature and leave everything behind, where would you go?
