SHIT! FUCK! PISS! CRAP!

I received my second “sorry you didn’t get picked for the Rising Stars of Manga anthology” letter from Tokyopop today. I may enter the contest a third time this summer, but that is definitely it. I will not be rejected by them four times.

The funny thing is I never seem to win contests for things I actually care about. In college I had to take a couple journalism classes to fulfill my broadcasting degree requirements. I couldn’t care less about journalism, but the only journalism contest in which I have ever participated I came away with a prize. I didn’t even know I was in the contest. Comic contests and similar things, on the other hand, where I work furiously to make something I care about ends in rejection. It’s and odd world, friends.

The good news is I’ll be posting the full comic online soon.

One day I just hope to make a movie at least half as good as The City of Lost Children, a comic half as good as Mr. Punch, and books and other things half as good as other greats.

LA TIMES article-best ever

Here is the best article I have yet to read in the LA Times: (15 April 2004)

IN BRIEF / PENNSYLVANIA
Flasher Beaten by Schoolgirls Gets Prison

A man who was tackled and beaten by a group of Roman Catholic schoolgirls after he flashed them outside their high school was sentenced to 10 months to two years in prison.

Rudy Susando, 25, also was sentenced to five years’ probation after his release, Assistant Dist. Atty. Noel Ann DeSantis said. Susando, a native of Indonesia, also might face deportation after his sentence is served, DeSantis said.

Susando was arrested Oct. 30 when more than a dozen girls from St. Maria Goretti High School for Girls, with the help of a bystander, chased him and wrestled him to the ground and held him for police. When he resisted, the girls kicked him repeatedly. He was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

The South Philadelphia schoolgirls said the man had been exposing himself outside the school for about a month and a half, police said.

Awaken Beast!

Time to post in this damn thing yet again.

Thanks to Easter, I had my first 3 day weekend in months. After sleeping in late, Jennifer and I drove over to Griffith Park to dine on El Pollo Loco. Griffith Park is a huge place, mind you, at least a couple square miles. There were people and cars everywhere. It was probably the equivalent of shoving the entire population of my hometown (Baton Rouge, Louisiana—it’s the capitol you schmucks) into one park.

We ate, relaxed a bit, and walked some. It was a nice change of pace from my usual schedule which consists of:
work, puppetshow stuff, personal projects, scrounging for money, occassional sleep, and more work. I even went to a party the night before. Having more than one day off at a time from work is a nice thing.

I spent much of my day today bastardizing some open source code of a pac-man game flash-style into a Moodoo Puppets pac-man game. It will be up on the site soon. It’s pretty fun.

We’ve been building new puppets and writing new shows. Mike moved into a house so we have plenty of workspace now. I’ve been randomly taping us working so I can put together various puppet documentaries later in the year. In July, we’ll be at Comic Con to which I am definitely looking forward. It’s turning out to be an interesting, albeit quite busy year. I should hear from Tokyopop soon. Let’s hope my comic won.
